The NCHSDG group was formed in 2023 with a few primary goals in mind:
Make disc golf more easily available and accessible (for little to no cost) for high school aged students statewide.
Provide safe opportunities for high school players to participate with compete and compete against other players from their region and (coming in spring 2027), statewide.
Provide adults and clubs structure (for planning) and support (in running) successful interscholastic disc golf events and leagues.
Encourage and support the design, installation, and maintenance of disc golf courses on NC high school campuses.
Standardize NC high school disc golf play structure in a way that closely resembles existing NCHSAA varsity sports with the (potential and distant) long-term goal of NCHSAA adoption.
As a group, we aim to use our members' years of experience to help facilitate successful high school events and leagues across the state. Because there are so few programs already in existence, we can form these programs/leagues with a (mostly) uniform format and structure, and use a board of directors to help each other to refine and shape high school disc golf in North Carolina into a cohesive sport.
The NCHSDG group was started by Kyle Silva, who is currently running the WNCHSDG league, the longest running and oldest(? as far as we can tell) scholastic player exclusive disc golf league in the country (world? somebody come correct us!) The WNCHSDG league has been operating since 2012 and has undergone a number of format and logistic changes to arrive at it's current state. We hope to use it's relative success to help shape interscholastic disc golf statewide!
